Summary

ePouta is designed for processing sensitive data in research use. It allows you to deploy virtual machines and storage resources directly to your organisation’s internal network, not to the internet.

Description

As a platform, from a technical and end-user point of view, the ePouta is practically the same as the cPouta. So if you want to see examples of use, please refer to the cPouta related documentation.

The difference lies in the way the service is set up and the purpose for which it is used.

Setting up the ePouta requires action by the higher education institute's IT department and the CSC ePouta team. It is a commitment between CSC and the institute and cannot be set up as a self-service.

Your institute may already have this service in place, please contact your IT department to find out more.

Also, in existing setups, many configuration options are under institute's IT department's control instead of CSC. For example, project's internal network access rules are settings that CSC cannot edit.

The purpose of ePouta is to provide higher education institutes with a secure environment in which to process sensitive research data.

It is not intended for educational purposes.

Tip

Any study assignments (like thesis work) that involve sensitive data can and should use SD Connect and SD Desktop services instead.
